Dramatic example of Office Open XML vs. legacy binary file sizes

One of the benefits of the Office Open XML file formats is their smaller size. Here's a great example using the Microsoft Office 2010 GPO / OCT settings reference document.

Kindle to support book lending

In addition to expanding on Amazon's "Buy Once, Read Everywhere" philosophy, The Amazon Kindle team added:

Second, later this year, we will be introducing lending for Kindle, a new feature that lets you loan your Kindle books to other Kindle device or Kindle app users. Each book can be lent once for a loan period of 14-days and the lender cannot read the book during the loan period. Additionally, not all e-books will be lendable - this is solely up to the publisher or rights holder, who determines which titles are enabled for lending.

Those terms are very similar to the Nook's.

Lending once for 14 days is certainly better than the current policy, but it still falls short of "paper" books (though I still prefer eBooks over paper most of the time).

Given the smaller number of Kindle books that do not support Text-to-Speech, I'm guessing those numbers will mirror the lend rights.

Microsoft TechNet: Configure Office 2010 for capturing as an image

This article describes an example of how to configure Microsoft Office 2010 to capture an image of the installation. It explains how to run Office 2010 Setup from a network installation point to install a custom configuration of Office 2010 on a reference computer that has a clean installation of Windows 7 Enterprise (Volume Licensed version). A network installation point is a network shared folder that contains the Office 2010 source files, language packs, and any Setup customization (.msp) files that you want to deploy. After your Office 2010 customizations are complete, you capture an image of the reference computer's operating system with the Office 2010 installation and the customizations that you specify. Then, you can distribute the image to users in your organization.

The TechNet flood of information continues with this thorough yet concise "how to" guide for installing and configuring Windows 7 and Office 2010 if you plan on deploying via an disk imaging utility.
